Price and Configuration Options
The base model we reviewed costs $569 and comes equipped with an Intel Core m3-8100Y CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB eMMC storage. Asus will also offer the Flip C434 which has a higher capacity battery for longer-lasting power in your workday needs!
According to an Asus representative, the Core i5 version is expected in May and will cost around $650. The Core 7 model launched this June for up to $700!
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Design
The Flip C434 is one of the most compact 14-inch laptops we’ve tested, with barely-there bezels and an 87% screen-to-body ratio.
The Flip C434’s design won’t blow you away, but the uniform silver/chrome aesthetic at least does enough to distinguish itself from MacBook’s look. We couldn’t say this about its predecessor though! When in tablet mode, the C434 can be flipped to turn itself into a tent.
With its slim and lightweight design, the Chromebook Flip C424 is perfect for those who travel often. At 12.6 x 8 x 0.6 inches with 3 pounds of weight, it can easily slip into your carry-on bag or backpack without weighing you down!
The 12.3-inch HP Chromebook x2 (0.6 inches, 3 pounds) is about as large and heavy as the Flip C434.
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Durability and Drop test
We tested 11 popular Chromebooks to find which are the most and least durable. Sadly, the Asus chrome book flip c434 got dead last in our durability test with severe damage to its aluminum chassis, broken touchpad buttons from 2 feet onto carpet 4 .5 ft drop, screen cracked when dropped on concrete at various heights – resulting in blocks of dead pixels!
The Flip C434 is a really cool toy, but you want to be extra careful when giving it away. If your child likes our video they may ask for one!
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Ports
The ports on the Chromebook C434’s slim chassis may be few and far between, but it still offers all of your essential needs.
The design of the server offers a wealth of ports for your convenience. On one side, you have two USB 3.1 Type-A connectors and on the other, there is also an sd card slot! Both USB-C ports support charging, so you can plug in from either side of this Flip C434.
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Display
With such slim bezels on this machine, I was drawn to the Flip C434’s 14-inch screen. It has a 1080p resolution and adequate brightness for reading text in dim lighting conditions or watching videos at nighttime without having bright lights shining directly into your face.
You’ll want to watch this one with your eyes closed. The bright colors and chevron detective cap are enough to make you think of Puss in Boots, but when they’re mixed together on Detective Pikachu’s furry head it all becomes a little too much for me!
The 14-inch display covers 93% of the sRGB color gamut, according to our colorimeter. While it may not have as vibrant a panel as some other models on this list from companies like HP and ASUS – who both offer screens with nearly twice its brightness rating-, the Chromebook Flip C434 still manages an impressive 114%.
The Flip C434’s display similarly falls in the middle of the pack for brightness. With a peak rating of 286 nits, this screen may not seem as luminous when compared with other Chromebooks (235 or even 403). However, it still comes out on top when looking at all three models; more than enough to see what you’re doing!
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Keyboard and Touchpad
The thin and light Flip C434 offers a solid typing experience, despite its low-travel keys. From 1 to 2 mm of key travel is our preference!
I have been using the Meg Keys for a few days now and they are great! The keys feel nice with just enough force to give them that tactile click, but not so much as it is difficult. It would be best if you prefer lighter clicks yourself though because they felt sticky when typing on this keyboard.”
I typed at a speed of 119 words per minute with an accuracy rate of 95%. I am very pleased with this result, but it’s not quite the high standard that my previous tests have shown.”
The touchpad on the Flip C434 was responsive but sometimes jumpy. It responded quickly to my swipes and taps as I browsed the web with Chrome OS gestures like pinch-to-zoom or two-finger swipe for moving back and forth between pages without any problems at all!
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Audio
The Flip C434’s speakers are loud and clear, but they don’t have the deep bass tone of some other headphones I’ve tested. However, the vocals sounded bright without any distortion even during a chaotic chorus from Glass Animals’ “Pools.”
The piano chords in Sampha’s ballad sounded distorted, which is a shame because the otherwise-excellent sound quality was highlighted by the clarity of the emotive falsetto.
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Performance
The Intel Core m3-8100Y and 4GB of RAM in our review unit gave me plenty of room to browse the web while running simple tasks. I watched a 1080p stream of Israel’s failed moon landing without any problems, even with three other HD videos streaming at once! There is some minor lag when switching between tabs but otherwise, this little computer was perfect for all sorts of internet use – from light research projects up through graphic design work or gaming sessions with ease.
The Flip C434’s WebGL Aquarium graphics test result was below average, at a speed of 5k fish per second. While this laptop passes our 30fps threshold for playability in games and other applications, the Chromebook Pro managed to do even better with 48 fps.
Chrome OS and Android Apps
Google’s operating system has aged like a fine wine in the past few years, transforming from an OS aimed at K-12 into something that could actually challenge Windows 10 and macOS. The catalyst for this change seems to be Android app support – which gives users access to their favorite mobile apps on laptops (even though most don’t really need them).
When it comes to computing, younger generations are fully immersed and rely on their smartphones more than any other device. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t use computers as well; Google has seen this trend continuing with Chrome OS being an easy-to-use operating system centered around the Google browser – which is where all your favorite websites will be saved!
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Battery Life
The Flip C434 extended its predecessors’ already respectable runtime by more than an hour. It endured for 9 hours and 58 minutes on our Laptop Mag battery test, which is longer than the eight-minute average in this category as well as other Chromebooks with similar specifications like the Pro or x2 models from HP!
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Webcam
The Asus C434 has a webcam built into the display above it. The 720p camera captures only average images, but it’s better than any nose cam for sure!
My beard looked like an unruly brown mass in the selfie I snapped with our office’s dim lighting. My eyes were also glazed over, and when I moved closer to one of those windows for some sun exposure before bedtime – WOW! You can see wrinkles around my eye area much better now because they’re so lightened up by that brilliant afternoon sky out there.”
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Heat
The Chromebook Flip C434 remained cool during our heat test, which involved playing a 15-minute video on full screen. The touchpad maintained a comfortable 83 degrees Fahrenheit and the center of this keyboard (87) as well! No other sections reached 95 degrees or exceeded it by much more than 5-10%.
Asus Chromebook Flip C434 Warranty and Support
The Asus Chromebook Flip C434 comes with a one-year warranty and is ranked among our top performers in the tech support showdown. You can learn more about this laptop by clicking here!
Bottom Line
The Chromebook Flip C434 is my new favorite laptop. The 14-inch display in its aluminum chassis makes for an excellent all-around device, with power to keep up and lasting nearly 10 hours on a charge!
The Flip C434 is a high-end 2-in-1 laptop that gives Mac and Windows users a compelling reason to switch over. For $569, this Chromebook has mixed results when it comes down to performance benchmarks but still stands out among other Chromebook devices with its design features like the 360-degree hinge which allows you to use your device in both tablet modes or tent modes!
1. Is the ASUS Chromebook Flip C434 good for students?
Yes. We designed the C434 to be the right size and shape for students, so it’s light and easy to carry in a backpack or sling bag, and its durable construction means it can go anywhere you go. Plus there’s plenty of space for your textbooks and folders in the spacious tablet stand/backpack stand when you’re at school. I just wish we could add power outlets to all our screens!
2. How good are ASUS Chromebooks?
ASUS Chromebooks are great because they stay up to date with the latest features and they update their OS every six weeks. They also last around five hours on a charge, which is amazing for such an affordable device.
3. Is Lenovo better than Asus?
ASUS has been the leader in laptops for years, but if you’re looking to purchase a new one and have a tight budget then Lenovo might be an excellent choice. It offers good value as well! However, those who want more from their gaming experience should go with Asus – they make some seriously cool stuff these days!”
